158 GunPlay(s) And Counting:
Closing In On The November 1 Deadline!
Greetings all! I hope this message reaches you well.
Despite a US government shutdown (sigh...more on that in a future blog post...), the GunPlay(s) Competition is stilllllllllllllll moving forward!
Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU ALL for your help and support in spreading the word about the GunPlay(s) Competition.
Since September 11, 2013, the count of submitted plays have grown from 103 plays to 158 plays--- with 20 days to go before the competition officially closes.
Reading the VAST ARRAY of writing submitted from playwrights across the US, Canada and Europe has given me a profound since of the ways that gun violence IS IMPACTING our daily lives, our thinking, our emotional lives in innumerable ways. So I thank EVERY writer for sharing his or her work with me.
I also want to offer thanks to those who have agreed to serve as judges and offered informal feedback, support and assistance on the competition. (Dear judges, I will be contacting you soon to launch the GunPlay(s) Competition commences (smile))
Special thanks must be extended to the following organizations:
---The Dramatist Guild, JAC Publishing, Insight for Playwrights Newsletter for continued advertising of the project
---Dr. Ronald Bailey and The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign Department of African American Studies & Research for agreeing to serve as the institutional sponsor/host for the 2014 Playreading Festival
--- Madelyn Chapman of the Castillo Theatre (NYC) and Kelly White, Executive Director, 40 North Champaign County Arts Council for consulting on the project
---Verlisa Shanklin, for agreeing to serve as Administrative Assistant for GunPlay(s) Competition
…and to my husband Domonic for being patient with all the plays around the house (smile)
If you, your department, organization or institution would like to serve as a judge, co-sponsor, actor or technician, volunteer
or want to serve the GunPlay(s) Competition in any capacity,
